Organizing with Folders
Create folder structures to organize your contracts by department, client, project, or any criteria.
Keep your contracts organized with DealView's flexible folder system.
Creating Folders
- Navigate to Contracts
- Click New Folder in the sidebar
- Enter a folder name
- Press Enter or click Create
Folders appear in the sidebar for quick navigation.

By Department

Combine structures using nested folders: Clients/Acme Corp/NDAs
Moving Contracts
Single Contract
- Click the contract row
- Drag to the target folder in the sidebar
- Or right-click → Move to Folder
Multiple Contracts
- Select contracts using checkboxes
- Click Move in the bulk actions bar
- Choose the destination folder
Nested Folders
Create subfolders for deeper organization:
- Right-click a folder
- Select New Subfolder
- Name the subfolder
Maximum depth: 5 levels.
Folder Actions
Right-click any folder to:
- Rename - Change the folder name
- New Subfolder - Create a child folder
- Move - Relocate to another parent
- Delete - Remove (moves contracts to root)
- Permissions - Set access controls (Pro+)
Folder Permissions
On Professional+ plans, restrict folder access:
- Right-click the folder
- Select Permissions
- Add users with access levels:
- Full Access - View, edit, delete
- Edit - View and edit
- View Only - Read-only access
- Save changes
Subfolder permissions inherit from parent folders by default. Override by setting explicit permissions.
Searching Within Folders
Limit search to a specific folder:
- Click the folder to view its contents
- Use the search bar - results are scoped to that folder
- Or use the filter: Folder is [folder name]
Default Folder for Uploads
Set where new uploads go:
- Go to Settings → Workspace
- Find Default Upload Folder
- Select your preferred folder
- Save changes
New uploads will automatically go to this folder.
Best Practices
- Plan first - Design your structure before importing contracts
- Keep it simple - Avoid overly deep nesting (3 levels max recommended)
- Use consistent naming - Establish naming conventions for folders
- Review regularly - Archive old folders, consolidate duplicates
- Document structure - Share folder organization with your team
Deleting Folders
When you delete a folder:
- Contracts move to the root level (not deleted)
- Subfolders are also deleted
- Action cannot be undone
To delete:
- Ensure folder contains no critical contracts
- Right-click → Delete
- Confirm the deletion
